Cruise Ships Launched in 2010

In 2010, cruise lovers were treated to a dozen new ocean-going ships and three river ships, but all but three will be almost identical sister ships of those already in service. This is not bad bad news, since travelers saw three dozen exciting new vessels across all markets added to the cruise lines’ inventories in 2009.

In 2009, the cruise lines launched at least 20 new ships: 10 ocean going cruise ships and 10 riverboats. The ten new cruise ships range in size from the significantly refurbished Clelia II with 100 passengers to the brand new Oasis of the Seas, the largest ship ever built, with 5400 passengers.

Cruise Deals:

Some of the ships are budget priced for the mass market, others are ultra-luxury for the well-to-do. The new ships were rolled out starting in early April and continued to late December. Add in the riverboats, and there is bound to be a ship and itinerary to suit every desire and pocketbook.

There are 32 cruise ships under construction or on order for deliveries through 2014, and that does not include many river boats and smaller vessels. This is in addition to more than 85 cruise ships major cruise line companies introduced since 2000. As this boom continued, 2010 has been an outstanding year for new cruise ships.

Cruise Deals:

At least 12 new cruise ships will take their maiden voyages this year. This is great news for those looking for cruise ship employment and other cruise line employment. Each of these new ships provides an average of over 1,100 new jobs needed to staff the cruise ship and and an additional 500+ jobs to provide the support services.
